Xylophone Etude Competition

Deadline: January 30th, 2010!

Announcing our Second Annual Etude Competition. Winners of the competition will join works by invited composers in a new Xylophone Etude Book published by Bachovich Music Publications. The new book will be released in March at the Day of Percussion, and your etude could be premiered during at Concert Of Premieres at the event.

Last year etudes from 29 competition winners were published, narrowed from over 50 submissions from all over the United States and abroad. Click here for more info about the PAS MassChap 2008 Snare Drum Collection.


For the new book, the rules are simple:

1. Your etude should be for intermediate to advanced level players (early high school to college or professional level).

2. Your etudes should be for a standard 3.5 octave xylophone. (Written as below, and sounding one octave higher.)


3. It is preferred that your etudes be one or two pages long (on 8.5x11 paper -- portrait, not landscape orientation), but longer etudes will be considered.

4. Computer typeset etudes will be given preferential treatment, but handwritten works are also acceptable.

5. You may submit up to three etudes.

6. With your submission you must include your full name (as you would like it to appear on the publication), email address, phone number, and mailing address.

7. Etude must not have been previously published (however etude MAY BE ADAPTED from an earlier published work for non-percussion instruments). Winning etudes become property of Bachovich.
